Religion: We are preparing for Easter and learning about Lent where we reflect on Jesus' life and all that He sacrificed for us.
Science: We have begun our unit on hearing and sound that Mme Kelsey is leading. Students explore the nature of sound, its sources, its qualities and what it is. They learn that sound is vibration and that changes in vibration can affect the loudness, pitch and quality of sound. They learn about sound travel by studying what things carry sound, what things make it louder or softer, and what happens to sound when it reaches their ears. The sensitivity of human ears and those of other animals is examined, as students learn about the safe use of this valuable sense.
Social Studies: We have finished our unit on geographic factors that affect the way people live in different countries. The students learned simple map drawing and were able to find information on the internet to discover and compare temperatures in different countries. We will now move into our next unit where the students will investigate how the environment impacts the quality of life in our 4 diverse countries.
Math: Our multiplication unit, also being taught by Mme Kelsey, has taken off with flying colors. The students are demonstrating their knowledge of equal groups and are understanding how repeated addition is connected to multiplication and the cumulative property of being able to switch around the factors to obtain the same product. The Grade 3 objective is to know and understand multiplication up to 5X5. We will be moving onto division soon after multiplication. French: We are working on a variety of skills such as oral comprehension, verb conjugation and improving reading and writing. We will also be doing a little St. Patrick's day literacy activity.
English: Our focus throughout the month of March will continue with writing also being led by Mme Kelsey. The students will be working independently on writing involving appropriately planning and drafting a story. They will then move into the revising stage. Many students are progressing nicely with their reading. Don’t forget to be reading nightly!
